From the time we step out of our houses till we get back to it;its there everywhere. Not to mention those buses and trains.Even rickshaw drivers are not less. The roadside romeos are not the only ones, sometimes educated dignified professionals just do it for ‘Fun’. It is a story that repeats itself everyday. Some girls eventually learn to deal with it by just not reacting. Some get affected and become mental wrecks. Some end their lives out of embarrassment.Only a few retaliate. Some in that FEW get paid with acid, rape and murder. Why cant they just spare us? Spare the eves!
No girl has been spared from being a victim of Eve-teasing.How many times has some man just passed by you giving those obscene comments or singing those obscene songs? ‘Choli Ke peeche Kya’ hain being the popular one.You are just walking on the footpath and a car stops by you with the driver giving those evil, cheap looks. All you can do is curse him under your breath and nothing else. When complained to your folks the blame game begins.Mostly they point at your clothes. So what if you are attractive? Is it a sin? Its really important to dress appropriately when in a crowd.Avoiding skimpy outfits is necessary but that doesn’t mean girls with salwar kameez are not eve-teased.Young girls with school uniforms have experienced it umpteen times. The rule book says dont walk on lonely, dark lanes where there is nobody.Don’t tell me crowded places are safe?!.Women are more prone to eve-teasing,even in day-light.
The men just do it to grab attention from women. They feel the girl will get woo-ed , just like the way it happens in Hindi Indian movies. There are so many songs dedicated to Eve-Teasing in our movies. They just glorify the act. What we call Eve-Teasing here,is called sexual-harassment worldwide.Of course there are laws enforced to curb them which we are ignorant about. But these cannot save us from the advances made by offenders in buses, trains and other public places.Always Raise your voice against it.This is the only way out.Scream, shout, make it a big issue. If you are not physically strong enough, others around you will be.The crowd will automatically take your side.Handle the situation with caution.
Fight back in a way that the guilty party can’t harm you.
Always carry pins,pen-knifes and pepper sprays.Deodorants help too! Don look lost-even when you are.Be street smart. Always be vigilant and attentive.
Drop this line ‘You dont know who iam’ when you are being stalked or when the culprit annoys you .This works like magic.Try traveling with a male escort. This might not be possible every time. Not even safe all the time, for all the obvious reasons!.Avoid walking past a group of men who seem to be doing nothing in particular. If somebody is trying to look into your eye or waiting to have ‘fun’,stay away.Lastly ,the stereotypic precautions- walk in well-lit frequented places and dress appropriately.Don’t let others take advantage of you.
Fight for your rights and dignity.Nobody can take them away from you other than You.
